  • Students should select one subject from each of the 6 subject groups.
  • In case a student does not want to select Group VI at all, he / she has the option to select an additional subject from either Group III or Group IV.
  • Each subject can be selected only at one level – HL or SL.
  • Students are required to take 3 subjects at Higher Level (HL) and 3 subjects at Standard Level (SL).
  • HL courses entail 240 hours and SL courses entail 150 hours of teaching.
  • HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at HL.
  • Group II language pursued in Grade X will need to be taken at a subsequently higher level which is Language B in IB DP.
  • Choice of Group II Language at the Ab Initio Level can only be selected if the student has not studied the language before/is new to the language.
  • Environmental Systems and Societies is a Standard Level (SL Only) interdisciplinary subject and fulfils the subject selection requirement either in Group 3 or in Group 4.
  • Taking 3 science subjects is discouraged by IB and will be granted at the school’s discretion in alignment with IB requirements.
  • All students registering for the IB DP will also complete the requirements of the core, – Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE),
  • Subjects offered in any year will be dependent on sufficient student demand and are at the school’s discretion.
  • The school will promote IB Diploma Programme. Although, case by case assessment of students requiring IB Course will be done.
  • Students registered for individual courses can also register for EE and TOK. However, CAS is mandatory for all students.

Subject Selection Criteria

In order to select the subjects for IB Diploma Programme, it is important to seriously consider the following criteria:

  • Interest in the subject
  • Ability and aptitude for the subject
  • Academic plan for the future in terms of the subjects one may wish to study
